The William Jewell Cardinals concluded their four game series with the University of Sioux Falls in a double header on Saturday at Jack Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo., winning game one 8-7 in 10 innings and falling 4-0 in game two.
In game one the Cardinals won via a bases loaded walk to shortstop
David Smith in the bottom of the tenth inning.
The Cardinals started fast by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first as
Willie Gaball delivered a bases loaded double that plated three runs for Jewell.
Sioux Falls answered back with four runs in the top of the second to take their first lead of the series 4-3.
The Cardinals answered back with three more in the bottom of the second keyed by a double suicide squeeze from
David Smith.
Trevor Bowden then delivered an RBI triple to put the Cardinals up 7-4 in the bottom of the third.
The Cougars answered back again and tied things up with three runs in the top of the fourth and the score stayed tied until the bottom of the tenth.
Cody Downing started for Jewell going four innings, giving up seven hits and seven runs (five earned).
Ron Johnson,
Blaze Carano and Bowden combined for six innings of relief without giving up a run and Bowden (2-0) gets the victory for Jewell.
Smith led the Cardinals with three RBI's and three walks while Gaball went two for five with three RBI's.
JP Bartmess continued his impressive start to 2012 going two for three with three walks and two runs scored in the lead-off spot for Jewell.
In game two the Cougars used a strong pitching effort from Sophomore right hander Derek Fisher (2-0) who went the distance shutting out the Cardinals for the 4-0 win. The win snapped a 9 game losing streak for the Cougars.
Sioux Falls scored four runs in the top of the fourth thanks in part to two errors by the Cardinals defense. Fisher held Jewell at bay from there with his impressive command on the mound.
Fisher worked seven innings giving up only five hits while striking out four with no walks.

Drew Mitrisin (1-2) also went the distance pitching six innings allowing four runs, giving up 9 hits while striking out four and issuing three walks.
The Cardinals, 7-5 on the year, will open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Saturday, March 17 against University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 12:00 p.m. at Jack Talley Stadium on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
