Storm's No-Hitter Completes Softball Year

Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

Senior pitcher Amanda Storm stole the show for William Jewell softball during the final game of the season, throwing a no-hitter to gain a split of a doubleheader with Drury University on Sunday.

With Jewell unable to qualify for the GLVC post-season tournament as a first-year member of the conference, the Cardinals end their year at 24-23, 18-15 in the conference.

Senior Mariah Buckingham nearly equaled Storm's feat, throwing a one-hitter through the first seven innings of game one, only to have Drury rally for six runs in the top of the eighth on three hits and three errors, winning the extra inning game 6-0.  The Cardinals actually outhit Drury 5-4 in the first game loss.  Emily Cline had two of the hits, and Buckingham (14-11) struck out five in the complete game effort.

Monica Villareal (17-9) was the complete game winner for Drury.  Kelsey James hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning.

The Cardinals jumped on losing pitcher Kelsey Garthoff (18-6) for a run in the first inning and two runs in the second inning of game two, then turned it over to Storm, who struck out six and walked six in navigating her way through the no-hitter.  The Drury run scored on a walk and an error by Storm in the sixth inning, and was the only time the Panthers (36-13, 22-12) had a major uprising against Jewell.

Lexi Rozmus, Eileen Greenwood, and Cline each had RBIs for the Cardinals.  Drury made three errors in the game.

Storm finishes the season with a 7-6 record.
