William Jewell battled back from two four-run deficits on Tuesday to upend Ottawa University 10-8 in non-conference baseball at Fred Flook Filed in Liberty.
Down 4-0 after the top of the second inning, Jewell (18-22) rallied for single runs in the second and third innings to cut the lead in half, only to fall behind 7-3 after the top of the seventh.
The Cardinals began to rally, though, with a five run seventh inning, touching two different Ottawa pitchers for four extra base hits in the frame.
Alex Backhaus started the inning with a leadoff double, David doubled, and after
Willie Gaball walked,
Kaleb Shaw drew a two-out walk with thebases loaded to push across a run. After a pitching change, Clark O'Dowd had a pinch hit double to drive in two, and J.P. Bartmess also doubled in a pair of runs.
The Cardinals followed their big seventh inning with two more runs in the eighth, as Backhaus singled,
Bryan Rezin tripled him in, and
David Smith brought Rezin home with a single.
Bartmess had two hits and three RBI for Jewell, while Smith,
Drew Mitrisin, and Backhaus also had two hits in a 13 hit attack.
Tyler Fata had a solo home run for Ottawa (21-25), who had 11 hits.
The winning pitcher for Jewell was
Trevor Bowden (3-1).
Blaze Carano pitched the ninth and had the save, his third.
Jewell travels to the University of Illinois-Springfield for a four game series this weekend.
