The Cardinal softball team went into Loyola Park at Rockhurst University on Tuesday and emerged with a doubleheader sweep over GLVC rival Rockhurst, winning 3-1 in the first game and 3-1 in the second game.

Senior pitcher Mariah Buckingham got a complete game win in each game, giving up one run on four hits in the first game, and then allowing one run on seven hits in the second game.

Buckingham struck out 16 hitters in the 14 innings she pitched, seven in the first game and nine in the second game.

Home runs by Faith Song and Lexi Rozmus highllighted the win in the second game for Jewell (16-15, 11-9 in the GLVC).  Song also had a two-run double in the first game.

The Cardinals return home to face Illinois-Springfield in a doubleheader on Friday, and Quincy University in a doubleheader Saturday.
