Jewell Splits Doubleheader at Drury

Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

Jewell split a doubleheader with Drury University in Springfield Tuesday, winning the first game 7-5 and dropping the second game 16-5.

Cody Downing took the win in the first game, pitching 5 1/3 innings to move to 4-3 on the year.  After Downing tired in the 6th inning and allowed five runs, Trevor Bowden came in to claim his first save of the season allowing a single hit and no runs in 1 2/3 innings.  Scotty Scott drove in two runs with a pair of singles, and Kaleb Shaw, J. P. Bartmess, and Tom Herrera also had two hits.  The Cardinals turned two double plays in the game.

In the nine inning second game, Drury pounded out 20 hits and sent starter Drew Mitrisin to the showers after 2 2/3 innings as the losing pitcher (2-6).  The Panthers (27-16, 19-12 GLVC) had hits in each of their eight at bats in the game, and scored runs in all but one of those turns at bat against six different Cardinal pitchers.  David Smith had three hits for Jewell (19-23, 10-18).

The Cardinals are scheduled to end their season Saturday and Sunday at home with noon doubleheaders against Quincy University.
